LOCATION SOUND
During principal photography of Heritage at our Newcastle interview location I worked with the sound recordist and production design team to prepare the space for the best sound recording quality possible, including use of echo-dampening materials outside of frame to reduce echo in the tiled interview space.

NOISE REDUCTION
Sound editing on Heritage proved quite challenging as it rained heavily throughout the shoot and lapel microphones could not be used due to the interview subjects' discomfort and aesthetic vision. Much of my time on Heritage was spent reducing this background atmosphere noise.

EXHIBITION MIXING
The final sound mix for Heritage was designed specifically for the physical installation space, namely Bon Marche Studio at UTS. I organised to have additional equipment such as speakers and projectors installed for the documentary to be heard throughout the entire space, sourced and purchased additional wiring required to connect it all, and worked inside the exhibition space to test and mix the sound levels to suit the space.

Editing Bo's Diary

Bringing the coming-of-age fantasy to life

from script to screen

I joined the team of Bo's Diary after the happy accident of being randomly assigned to provide script feedback during its development stage. Meeting with director/writer Isabel James, who was a total stranger to me at the time, we found we found that we had a love for similar films like Submarine (2010) and Marie Antoinette (2006), and that we both wanted to make a film inspired by those visuals.

on set

During the production of Bo's Diary I worked as script supervisor and, because I was originally attached as sound designer at the time, also worked closely with the sound recording team to ensure we were capturing the best sound.

At the end of each day of the 3-day shoot I would data-wrangle and then back-up our precious footage and audio.

montage heaven

There are a number of themes built into the story of Bo's Diary; significantly female objectification, social isolation, romance, and fantasy escapism. In just under 9 minutes, the final edit of the short film captures those themes in its quirky awkward dialogues scenes and dream-like musical montages.

Incorporating the diary pages designed by our wonderful production designers was a post-production decision I feel brought it all together.

the technical

Bo's Diary was shot in 5K .R3D format and edited primarily in Adobe Premiere Pro 2024.
